    Art History for Elementary Students

This resource is such a unique collection of art lessons and hands-on projects. Within each unit, students will focus on the artwork, history, culture, geography, and literacy. Students will love the interdisciplinary connections!

Every lesson includes a teacher script. This covers essential information about the specific art style and time period. Then, there is a relevant art project and a reflection and review page to explore concepts and vocabulary. Students can even complete a coloring page of famous art, extension art projects, and a word search with vocabulary words. Honestly, each unit contains so many excellent resources. Thankfully, each teacher can select which projects to focus on while having additional activities ready for early finishers.

    Required Materials

All teachers have to work with limited budgets. That is why art history made fun projects only use inexpensive and easily accessible art supplies. This includes paper, scissors, markers, and paint. You will not have to spend much money or time preparing these fantastic art projects.

    Art History Lesson Length

There is so much to get through each day. Luckily, art history made fun projects involve multiple subject areas. For instance, students may learn about a social studies topic through an art project. This means they are learning their content through hands-on activities.

If using the art projects in addition to core content areas, that is okay as well! The time length will vary based on students and activities. For planning purposes, set aside about one hour for the teacher read aloud script, class discussion, art lesson, and clean up. Then, teachers can select the writing extension activities and additional art lessons based on available time. It will be amazing to see how focused students are during these lessons!

    Artists and Art Period

There are so many incredible artists teachers can focus on! The Art History for Elementary Students utilizes a chronological order to showcase different time periods. For instance, this begins with Cave art and progresses to Egyptian art. As students continue to travel through time, they will learn about Leonardo DaVinci and Van Gogh. Furthermore, students will learn about Abstract art and Cubism. Incredibly, this resource focuses on so many artists and time periods!

    Teacher Background

General education teachers go through extensive training while earning their teaching degrees. This typically focuses on core subjects, learning strategies, and classroom management. Then, different teacher degrees focus on art techniques, physical education, and music. Luckily, teachers do not need any experience or knowledge of art history! Each unit begins with a child-friendly script for teachers to read to students. Even discussion questions ensure the entire class has an engaging conversation together.

    Literary Integration with Art History

Finding time to add art lessons to an already packed curriculum is challenging. Thus, this collection focuses on literary integration. For instance, students will complete various writing prompts. Likewise, they will work on discussing different thoughts and perspectives with classmates. Students will love how their art history made fun lessons involve so many activities.

    Showcasing Student Work

Students are so proud of their artwork! Therefore, teachers can display the projects for everyone to enjoy. Then, they can put the artwork into a scrapbook for each student. There is even a cover page included.

Honestly, school is not only about core subject areas. It is about preparing students to be positive community members. Likewise, teachers want to ensure students know about many different topics. Thankfully, the Art History for Elementary Students resource contains lessons to use throughout the entire school year. Students will be so proud to become little artists in the art history made fun lessons!
