As Mother’s Day approaches, I’m always looking for original new Mother’s Day gifts for my students to make for their moms.
Here are some gift projects I’ve done in the past with my students:
MOTHER’S DAY GIFT PORTRAIT
Draw a portrait of mom! Students can use crayons, markers, paints or pastels. With younger students, provide circle-shaped cardboard tracers for the head. This ensures that students have a large enough face to fill in. Ask students to think about: what color is Mom’s hair? Is it long or short? What color are her eyes? Don’t forget eyebrows! These portraits can be laminated so they will last for many years.

TISSUE FLOWER PENCILS
Have students tape tissue flowers (or fake flowers) to the top of a pen or pencil. This can be mom’s special pen that nobody else can walk away with! It’s a nice way to brighten up Mom’s workspace at home.
MOM IS WOW CARDS!
Did you notice that “mom” turned upside down spells “WOW”? Fold a card in half and write “MOM” in bubble letters. Then cut out both pieces to see the word “WOW” under the fold! This makes a super unique card for mom!
INTERACTIVE MOTHER’S DAY WRITING
As you prepare for mother’s day, don’t forget to connect it to some writing. For example, you could use this sentence writing actvity all about mother’s day. Students arrange words to make a proper sentence, and then print, self-edit, and illustrate! This activity is part of a seasonal bundle that will fill your writing center with meaningful practice.

BROCHURE ABOUT MOM
Moms get a real kick out of reading what students write about them in this “This is my mom” brochure. Just print this one double-sided and fold!
