Winter STEM Lessons

While the weather may be snowy and cold outside, students are full of energy inside! Between indoor recess and not getting to play outside after school, students do not have a lot of options to run off their energy. Due to this, it can be challenging to keep them engaged in the classroom. It is just so hard to keep their minds and bodies calm. Luckily, winter STEM lessons are the perfect way to bring in fun, exciting lessons to keep students focused! Once students use Seasonal STEM with Partner Plays for the first time, they will be eager for more!

There are so many great reasons to introduce students to STEM projects. For example, they present students with an authentic problem. This means students explore different solutions and plan out their best idea. Ultimately, they brainstorm, communicate with others, test their thoughts, and revise. Sometimes, students see their plan result in success. However, students also recognize mistakes are part of the learning process and head back to the drawing board. Honestly, STEM challenges are a fantastic way to show students how much fun learning is and how good it feels to use their minds.

Seasonal STEM with Partner Plays 

This resource is the ideal way to explore STEM in your classroom! The challenges are all quick and easy yet super engaging. Best of all, they even incorporate literacy through fun partner plays to build teamwork and cooperation. 

Specifically, there are 6 STEM challenges and 4 Partner Plays. Each Partner Play includes a script that sets up a problem for the characters and includes fun themes. This includes snowmen and Valentine’s Day. Then, students work to solve the problem with one of the STEM challenges. This is an amazing way to bring the story to life and build meaningful connections! Students will have so much fun with these winter STEM lessons! 

Each challenge includes photos of student examples and a simple material list. There are even 2 extra STEM challenges for early finishers. 

To support students, there is a STEM workbook. This will help students through the brainstorming process and allow them to describe their testing and needed improvements.
