St. Patrick's Day Leprechauns - Whimsy Workshop Teaching

March is the month where my students become obsessed with leprechauns, pots of gold, and wearing green! So, if you’re looking for some ways to celebrate, keep reading!

LEPRECHAUN GOLD

Did you know that if you manage to trap a leprechaun, it has to give you all of it’s gold?! This is a wonderfully fun journal topic because it’s so fun to write about. How would you catch it? And what would you do with all that gold? Each year, my students want to talk about this endlessly and love to write about it too!

LEPRECHAUN TRAPS

Of course in order to get all that gold, you’ve got to catch it first! But how? Begin a class conversation about this by asking: Would you leave a trap somewhere? How would you lure a leprechaun? Invite students to bring materials from home so they can create their own traps, and explain to the class how it works! Pro-tip: lego men work well as leprechauns, especially covered with some green painter’s tape!

You can try using this STEM pack that includes directions and a partner play for making leprechaun traps and writing about it. This way all your planning is done for you, and there’s a few other neat projects as well.

LEPRECHAUN DRAWING

If your students love directed drawing, I have two ideas for you. The first one is one I use in my writing centers and early finishers bin. Students draw a leprechaun step by step, and then they also write about it! This set has lots of differentiated writing templates and different formats to ensure that all students feel successful and engaged.
